Gold hikes by Rs171
KARACHI: Gold price has hiked by another Rs171 to create a new record of Rs22,328 per 10 grams on Thursday against Rs22,157 a day earlier as dollar appreciated further against rupee.
President All-Pakistan Supreme Council of Jewellers Association, Alhaj Haroon Rashid Chand told The News that dollar rate had moved up to Rs72.50, thus reducing the price difference between the local and international markets.
Gold dealers across Karachi said that they are experiencing the worst-ever business season as markets remain deserted. They said that now the continuity of their businesses was being challenged as small traders such as jewellers and goldsmiths were sitting idle with no work, while the cost of their businesses such as shop rent and electricity continued to hike.
On the other hand, the international bullion market continued to shed value of the precious metal as gold dropped by $9 to $965.50 on Thursday as the dollar strengthened against other major currencies.
