ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has remarked that Malik Tabarak Hussain alias Malik Bari has tried to blackmail the court by misusing the benefit of bail.
The CJP gave this observation while presiding over a 3-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) during the course of hearing of Malik Bari case here on Tuesday. The other members of the bench were justice Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmad and justice Ghulam Rabbani.
Malik Tabarak Hussain alias Malik Bari and his wife Anjum Riaz were also present on the occasion. Shamreza Bibi, wife of the security guard who was killed, was also present in the court. Shamreza Bibi told the court that Malik Riaz had given her cheque amounting to Rs 5 million and she had returned it.
Counsel for Malik Bari told the court Malik Bari had appeared in the court under its orders. The CJP gave remarks that Malik Bari took wrong advantage of leniency of the court and flew to a foreign country for his treatment without informing the court. All influential persons indulge in wrongdoings. Cases are pending against Malik Bari in Karachi. We will send him to Karachi in connection with hearing of the cases, he further remarked.
DSP Karachi Police Niaz Khosa told the court two more cases were registered against Malik Bari with the Karachi police and investigation in these cases was yet to be made. CJP observed two options were left with the court either to cancel his bail or to hand over him to Karachi police as he was not a responsible citizen and he misused the leniency of the court. Hearing of the case was adjourned to May 20.
