Protest rallies in Sindh against water shortage

LARKANA: On the call of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat, demonstrations, rallies and sit-ins were held against the water shortage in many parts of Sindh on Thursday.

The protestors burned tyres and chanted slogans during the protests in Larkana, Qamber-Shahdadkot, Dadu, Jamshoro, Badin, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando Mohammed Khan, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Benazir Abad, Naushehroferoz, Khairpur, Ghotki, Sukkur, Kashmor-Kandhkot, Jacobabad, Shikarpur and other districts.

Central Joint Secretary Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Sindh, Mushtaq Bukhari, and others led a protest rally against artificial shortage and theft of water.The protestors also staged a sit-in and burned tyres in front of the Town Hall, Larkana.

On the occasion, they said that millions of acres of land had become barren due to the shortage of water in River Indus, canals and distributaries of Sindh. In Hyderabad, a demonstration was held at the Miran Mohammed Shah Road, which was led by Yousuf Sindhi, Mehar-un-Nisa Larik, and Zeb Nizamani.

Meanwhile, a demonstration was also held under the leadership of Bashir Mangi and Mushtaq Bukhari in Sukkur. In Naushehro Feroze, a protest rally led by Dr Mushtaq Phul was taken out besides a sit-in was staged outside a local press club.
