Ansar Burney for early release of Indian, other foreign prisoners

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Ansar Burney Trust International and former federal minister for human rights, Ansar Burney, has made a passionate appeal to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, for the early release of all Indian nationals and other foreign prisoners who have already completed their sentences in Pakistani prisons and still waiting to be released, says a press release issued here on Sunday.

The United Nations Expert Adviser on Human Rights, Ansar Burney, in a letter to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, requested him to take suo moto action and called for a record of Indian nationals and all other foreigners detained and confined in Pakistani prisons even after completion of their sentences long time ago.

Ansar Burney requested the honourable court to order for their immediate release and send them back to their respective countries without further delay. Ansar Burney said that after the completion of sentence, detention or confinement of foreigners in Pakistani prisons are against the Constitution, the law of the land and against the human rights charter of the United Nations.

He also urged the government and the courts not to treat these unfortunate prisoners of circumstances as enemies and requested to treat them as human beings, in the very greater interest of justice, Aman ki Asha , human dignity and human rights.
