Burney asks India to release Pak prisoners

JALANDHAR: The Chairman Ansar Burney Trust International, Ansar Burney, advocate, in the larger interest of human dignity and human rights, has once again requested the Indian government for early release and deportation of dozens of Pakistani prisoners from Indian jails, who had already served their sentences and waiting to be released since long, says a press release.

Former minister for human rights Ansar Burney in his appeal to Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P Chidambaram and Indian High Commission in Islamabad, once again appealed in the name of humanity for the early release of all those foreign prisoners who had already completed their sentences in Indian jails and were waiting to be released since long.

On the other hand, the Ansar Burney Trust in Pakistan is in search of relatives of three such Pakistanis lodged in Indian jails even after serving their sentences long time ago.

Ansar Burney, in his appeal to the Indian government, said Abdul Sharif Sakhi, son of Ghulam Ahmed Agha, had served his three-month sentence 13 years ago, Haroon Rasheed served his sentence eight years ago and Abu Salim, son of Mukhtiar, served his sentence two years ago, but they were still waiting to be released.

In this regard, Ansar Burney, also made an appeal to the media in Pakistan to help the Ansar Burney Trust in locating the relatives of these three Pakistanis and dozens of other Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails.

Burney also requested to relatives of these unfortunate prisoners of circumstances to contact the Ansar Burney Trust at Wassiamal Building, Arambagh Road, Karachi, or by phone no: (021) 32623382-32623383.

Meanwhile, Ansar Burney has also filed a writ petition in the Indian Punjab s Haryana High Court, challenging the illegal detention of a Pakistani national confined in an Indian jail for the last 13 years on a sentence of three months only.
