ISLAMABAD: Ansar Burney Trust International Chairman Ansar Burney has strongly condemned the killing of two Christian brothers, Rashid Emmanuel and Sajjid Emmanuel, in custody outside a court in Faisalabad, says a press release issued on Tuesday.
{loadposition content_adsense300}Burney, who is also a former federal human rights minister and UN expert adviser on human rights, said the murder of the Christian brothers in broad daylight in front of dozens of people on the district courts premises did not come as a surprise to his trust.
Ansar Burney said the banned extremist groups, openly working under the patronage of the government and some other political parties in Pakistan, made announcements through loudspeakers of a mosque in the area, asking Muslims to gather on the district courts premises when the Christian brothers, accused of writing a blasphemous pamphlet, would be produced.
Burney said in the press release that the two brothers were innocent as on one point during the court proceedings the investigation officer told the court that there was no evidence of blasphemy against them; therefore, the police had no reason to further remand them in custody.
Ansar Burney strongly condemned the alleged act of the Punjab government of patronising extremist elements and said despite threats by extremist elements from the banned militant groups to kill the Christian brothers, the Punjab government had totally failed to take any action against terrorists and banned extremist groups, and make security measures for the protection of Christian brothers.
Burney demanded of the government to appoint a judicial commission to probe into the incident, and reported attacks on the Christian community after their killing. He also demanded immediate arrest of killers of humanity to bring them to justice.
