Posted on: Mon April 26, 2010

MANSEHRA: Coordinator of the Hazara Tehrik Sardar Haider Zaman on Sunday asked the federal government to immediately declare Hazara a separate province or a civil disobedience movement would be initiated.

Addressing a gathering in Dassu, the headquarters of Kohistan district, he said the people of Hazara had been protesting for the last 25 days but the rulers did not pay any heed to their demand for a separate province.

The time is not far away when millions of people will march on Islamabad if the government did not declare Hazara a separate province, he added.

Other leaders of the Hazara Tehrik, including Syed Qasim Shah, Sardar Mohammad Yousuf, Gohar Ayub Khan, Omar Ayub Khan, Amanullah Khan Jadoon, Dr Azhar Jadoon, Alamzeb Khan and Shahzada Gustasap Khan, also spoke on the occasion.

Haider Zaman, who is the former Abbottabad district Nazim, warned the government not to play with the sentiments of the people and accept their demand as early as possible.

People extended a warm welcome to the leaders of the Hazara Tehrik in Komila, Pattan and Dassu. There were reports of shutdown in Pattan and Dassu bazaars and the Karakoram Highway was blocked for five hours in Dassu.

A public meeting was also held in Pattan at the Sarban Chowk where the Hazara Tehrik leaders accused the ANP-led provincial government of hatching conspiracies to create differences among the districts in Hazara by promising to create Abaseen division.

They said the ANP never mentioned Abaseen division in the past and it was doing so now to weaken the Hazara Province Movement. They said Kohistan would be made a division and new districts would be created once Hazara became a province.

The Hazara Tehrik leaders pledged to offer every sacrifice for separating Hazara from the province and making it a separate province. They claimed Hazara generated resources for the NWFP while Kohistan was the most resourceful district in Hazara.

APP adds: Hazara Movement Chairman Sardar Haider Zaman Baba, former Speaker National Assembly Gohar Ayub Khan, Dr Azhar Jadoon, Qasim Shah, Umar Ayub, Alamzaib Khan were received by large number of Kohistanis at Pathan in Lower Kohistan.

The rally was later converted into a big public meeting at Sirban Chowk here. Movement chairman Haider Zaman said that poverty of Kohistan will be eradicated after the creation of a new province. He welcomed newcomers into the folds of the movement and assured that their struggle is peaceful and will continue till its logical end. He said Kohistan district has lot of natural resources and is generating a lot of income for the national kitty.

It is unfortunate that the region was ignored for development. The decades-old deprivation of the people of Kohistan would be removed after the creation of the new province, he added. Haider Zaman resolved to continue peaceful efforts to win the rights of the people of the division as more rallies will be staged to press demand for a separate province. Later, the participants of the rally reached Dassu, capital of Upper Kohistan where former Foreign Minister Gohar Ayub and Haider Zaman addressed the rally.
