JAMRUD: A resident of Jamrud Tehsil, Khyber Agency, who was detained at the Guantanamo Bay camp for four years, reached home on Sunday.

Talking to The News, Dunya Gul, son of Hamesh Gul, said he was arrested by the US soldiers near the Torkham border after they seized handgrenades from his luggage and sent him to the Guantanamo Bay prison.

The tribesman said he was on way to Afghanistan along with an Afghan national to find work when intercepted by the US troops after crossing the Torkham border. The freed man added he was unaware of the fact that the same Afghan national had concealed handgrenades in his luggage.

The US forces first detained me in Bagram Jail from where I was shifted to the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, he said and added that he was severally tortured at Bagram and Guantanamo jails.

Dunya Gul said when the US officials came to know about his innocence, they freed him, handing him over to the Afghan authorities. The tribesman said when a court in Afghanistan looked into the investigation papers verified by the officials of Guantanamo Bay and Afghan governments, he was acquitted.
