ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Standing Committee on Textile Industry Chairman Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari has directed Pepco to take serious steps for the implementation of scheduled loadshedding for the textile industry to save the sector under the prevailing circumstances.

The NA committee on Textile Industry met here on Monday. The committee meeting was chaired by Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari while Minister for Textile Industry Rana Muhammad Farooq Saeed Khan also attended the meeting.

Earlier, giving the briefing to the committee, the secretary textile industry said the export of yarn would be restricted to 35 million kg per month for all types of yarn for the next four months.

He added that the Ministry of Textile Industry was closely monitoring the yarn situation in the domestic market and it was expected that the ministry s initiatives would further slow down the exports of cotton yarn.

The committee was also briefed by the Pakistan Cotton Standard Institute on the grading and standardising of raw cotton being produced in the country. The committee observed that the lack of awareness among the cotton growers and the selection of uncertified cotton seeds were the major causes for low production and poor quality.

It was decided to convene another meeting to examine the factors responsible for the low production of cotton crop and to suggest measures to improve it. MNAs Chaudhry Iftikhar Nazir, Waseem Akhtar Sheikh, Sardar Talib Hassan Nakai, Rana Asif Tauseef, Abdul Rashid Godil and senior officials in the Ministry of Textile Industry attended the meeting.
