NAB to probe alleged misuse of funds

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to open an inquiry into misappropriation of funds in Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) causing loss of millions of rupees to the exchequer, NAB spokesman said.
The NAB has also decided to initiate verification of charges of corruption and corrupt practices of officers of Ministry of Housing and Works.
The names of the accused officers have been put on Exit Control List (ECL), the spokesman said adding that letter, in this regard, has been forwarded to the concerned section of the Ministry of Interior for further line of action.
An Executive Board meeting of NAB was held Wednesday, authorized to hold an inquiry against Dr Hashmi and Fazal of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council on the allegations of misuse of authority and corrupt practices due to which, a loss to the tune of Rs21 million has been caused to PM&DC.
The decision was taken at the Board Meeting chaired by the Acting Chairman Javed Kazi Wednesday. The names of accused persons have been forwarded to Ministry of Interior, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad for placing them on the ECL. It was also decided to hold an inquiry in a case of fraud committed by the owner of a consulting service, Lahore, referred to NAB by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
While declining to approve the filing of a reference in a particular case, the acting chairman observed not to bring the incomplete cases to the executive board meeting. He urged that the officers at HQ should be more prudent in examining the cases and be precise in the preparation of references so that the same could stand the test of trial in accountability courts.
