ABBOTTABAD: The leaders of Action Committee for Hazara province on Thursday announced to stage hunger-strike camps across the division against the approval of 18th Amendment by the Senate.
The leaders also expressed reservations over the judicial commission established by the provincial government to probe the recent violent incidents in Abbottabad and elsewhere in Hazara Division.
Addressing a press conference, the head of the action committee Baba Sardar Haider Zaman Khan, former ministers Amanullah Jadoon, Yousaf Ayub, Mushtaq Ghani, Qalandar Lodhi, Omar Ayub Khan and Dr Azhar Jadoon said that they would boycott the commission investigation if their demands were not met.
The leaders alleged that the rulers were using brute force to suppress the dissenting voice of the Hazara people. Baba Haider Zaman said today was a black day in the history of Pakistan as the Senate had also passed the controversial name of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for the NWFP.
He said the name was chosen on ethnic and linguistic basis, depriving the people of Hazara of their identity. The leaders of action committee vowed that peaceful efforts for the creation of Hazara province would continue till the achievement of their goal. They said they would not hesitate to render more sacrifices for their just demand, adding that if cases were not registered against the commissioner, DCO, DIG and DPO Hazara, then they would move court to get murder cases lodged against them.
Expressing dissatisfaction at the judicial commission s role, the leaders demanded to include one more judge and three senior lawyers, including Mushtaq Tahirkheli, Qazi Muhammad Arshad, and Fazlul Haq Abbasi, into the body.
Meanwhile, six persons arrested during violent protests on April 12 were released on bail. Those released included Faraz Gul, Khan Gul, Amir Gul, Muhammad Habib, Zahidur Rehman and Ghazanfar Ali.
Meanwhile, former opposition leader in the provincial assembly, Shahzada Gustasap Khan, has demanded formation of a commission for the separate province of Hazara. Addressing a press conference, he dispelled the impression that the PML was behind the ongoing movement of Hazara province. Hazara Division was considered a stronghold of the PML-N but Nawaz Sharif betrayed the people of the region and lost their loyalties, he added.
Meanwhile, the lawyers boycotted the court proceedings on the fourth consecutive day on Thursday and staged protest rally against the renaming of the NWFP as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Also, hundreds of protesters took to the streets in Gari Habibiullah and blocked the Kashmir Road for three hours.
Speaking on the occasion, Qazi Shafique, Changaz Fayyaz Tanoli, Sardar Saeed and others said that though the Senate had passed the 18 Amendment yet they would continue their struggle until their demand of separate province of Hazara was met.
