Rain makes Wasa struggle again

LAHORE – The City received downpour on Monday morning, disturbing normal routine life as the rainwater inundated on roads not only in low lying areas but also several posh localities. Lahore received 28 mm rain.

Short bursts of heavy rains submerged roads and streets in several localities into knee deep water and it took hours to WASA to clear inundated rainwater after stoppage of rains. The inundated rainwater on roads and roadsides added to the woes and miseries of motorists and pedestrians till at noon. Massive traffic jams were witnessed on a number of important arteries. Several incidents of skidding of motorcycles were also reported from various parts of the City.

The steady rains and windy conditions provided respite to the Lahorites from the muggy weather till at noon. However, clearing of sky in the afternoon, lack of winds and rain again turned the weather muggy, causing the Lahorites to sweat in the afternoon and in the evening.

Lahore Canal, as usual, attracted a large number of people including women and children. Not only youths, but also elderly people were seen bathing in the canal water. At some places, even women were seen taking a dip in the mud coloured canal water. On Monday, maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded 35 degree Celsius and 26. 7 C respectively. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded 78 per cent which decreased to 59 per cent in the evening.

According to the experts, a fresh trough of westerly wave is moving over northern parts of the country. w lies over north Balochistan. Weak monsoon current from Arabian Sea is reaching Punjab up to 3000 feet. Local Met has forecast partly cloudy weather with chances of rain for the City during the next 24 hours and scattered rains for Khyber-PK and North-Northeast Punjab.
