Reports sought in Aafia case

LAHORE: Justice Sh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought reports from the Ministries of Interior and Foreign by April 27 on a petition seeking directions for the federal government to inform the United States court that Dr Aafia Siddiqui was kidnapped from Karachi along with her three kids.

Petitioner Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffery pleaded that the case had taken a new turn after Dr Siddiqui s missing daughter was found after many years. This he claimed was a proof that Dr Siddiqui was abducted from Karachi.

Mr Jaffery submitted in his petition that either the attorney general of Pakistan or someone else be directed to write to the United States District Court that Dr Aafia was, in fact, kidnapped along with her three innocent children by FBI/CIA and she was not arrested from Ghazni as claimed by the US government. He argued had Dr Siddiqui been arrested from Ghazni, both the US and Afghan governments would have informed the Pakistan Embassy in Kabul.

The petitioner submitted that the recovery of Dr Siddiqui s daughter, Maryam, from United States base in Afghanistan had been confirmed by the Foreign and Interior Ministries of Pakistan.
