Senate approves National Commission for Women Status Bill-2011

ISLAMABAD: The Senate has approved National Commission for Women Status Bill-2011 today, SAMAA reported on Thursday.

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) and Jamat-e-Islami (JI) both parties opposed the bill in the upper house of the country.

This women commission will be entitled to launch a probe into human rights" violation itself or on the behalf of the victim.

To protect human rights, this commission will present proposals for new laws or change in existing laws; it will also make administrative arrangements for implementation of the same.

Two members of minority and one member from each province including tribal area and Gilgit Baltistan will be included in the commission.

On behalf of the chair person of the commission, an authorized person will be able to verify and approve all decisions and orders of the commission.
