PESHAWAR: The meeting of the Senate Functional Committee on problems of Less-Developed Areas was held here on Monday at the Civil Secretariat with its acting chairman Senator Haji Muhammad Adeel in the chair.

Besides others, Senator Sabir Ali Baloch, Senator Pir Muhammad Khan, Senator Shahid Hassan Bugti, Senior Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rahimdad Khan and Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development, Ghulam Dastagir Khan attended the meeting.

The committee was briefed about the ongoing and new projects of the Wapda, the Sui Gas Company and the NHA.

Senator Haji Muhammad Adeel, the acting chairman of the committee, expressed displeasure over the absence of the chairmen of Sui Gas Company and the NHA and sought their presence in the upcoming meetings to make the federal-funded projects durable and lifelong in line with wishes of the peoples and get a full briefing on the ongoing and new projects on these departments.

He suggested separate briefing on these three departments so that the committee could compile its recommendations aimed at bringing the less-development areas at par with the developed parts of the country.

The committee discussed at length on the merits of federally-funded projects, which are being executed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and stressed the need for complete transparency in utilisation of funds.
