Shahbaz expands cleanliness drive

LAHORE – Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday directed that special teams be constituted for supervising the process of elimination of dengue mosquito and larvae from historical sites, gardens, parks, bus stands, graveyards and other places. He also directed that the teams should submit their reports in this regard by visiting these spots from time to time so that success of the efforts for eradication of dengue mosquito and its larvae could be evaluated.

Shahbaz Sharif expressed these views while presiding over a meeting to review measures against dengue virus. Elected representatives, secretaries of various departments, members of Indonesian medical team and experts were present. The meeting further decided to include lady health workers in the public awareness campaign who will pay door-to-door visits to inform the people about preventive and precautionary measures against dengue virus.

The Chief Minister said that dengue has also provided an opportunity to check the efficiency of various departments and like Health department other departments can also improve their performance by adopting this standard. He said that elected representatives, bureaucrats and experts are taking an active part in the campaign against dengue virus and this menace will be controlled with collective efforts and cooperation of the masses.

Shahbaz Sharif said that the campaign against dengue virus is being pursued in the form of a movement and Ulema, doctors, labourers and people of all walks of life have been included in the campaign. He said that dengue mosquito is found everywhere including shops, houses, offices, parks and public places, therefore, every member of society will have to play his role in its eradication. He said that doctors, nurses and paramedical staff are being sent to Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore for training against dengue virus.

He said that arrangements have also been made for the training of doctors of charity and private hospitals regarding curative measures against dengue fever so that they could look after the patients in a proper manner.
